I was looking over some archived issues of "medpageToday" and came across the attached article on the importance of eating fish and nuts for persons who are at risk of developing macular degeneration. As our population ages there are predicted to be increasing numbers of people suffering from macular degeneration. More and more research, like this study from Australia shows that persons at risk of macular degeneration should be proactively working to avoid this devastating, blinding disease.
Who is at risk? Those closely related to someone with macular degeneration (parent or sibling), smokers, diabetics and people who have lots of unprotected sun exposure have an increased risk. In addition to yearly, dilated, eye examinations they should be taking steps to try to prevent macular degeneration.
